Craniosacral resonance is a gentle, non-invasive skilled touch method, which is held in such a way that your body can start self-healing and correction processes.

The craniosacral system of the body consists broadly of:
- The cranium (bones of the head)
- The sacrum (tailbone)
- Membranes extending between the two & enveloping the spinal cord
- Cerebral spinal fluid (CSF) which is contained within the membranes and continuously bathes the brain and spinal cord.
Conventional anatomy states that the bones are fused in adults. But the Father of Cranial Ostheopathy, Dr William Sutherland, when he placed his hands on a skull, he could feel a very subtle rhythmic motion of expansion and contraction of the bones on the head and body and his further research revealed that the whole body was “breathing”, not just the lungs.

The Science behind it
The word RESONANCE describes the phenomenon of increased amplitude that occurs when the frequency of an applied periodic force is equal or close to a natural frequency of the system on which it acts. (Source: Wikipedia)
A slow pulsatile movement phenomenon that the whole body exhibits, involving a flexion and extension of midline structures (cranium and spine) with an external and internal rotation of arms and legs is called ‘Cranial Rhythmic Impulse’ (CRI), which has been measured in a study (ref. https://craniofascial.com/measuring-cranial-rhythm/)

Everything in the universe is based on frequency. The lower the frequency, the higher the density. Humans are fundamentally spiritual beings, which means that only some part of us vibrate on frequencies, which we can perceive as a physical substance – a body.
The major part of a human being is made up an energy body, an information field – subtle structures – which permeate the physical body and vibrate on higher frequencies. That is why these structures are ungraspable to the human five senses. But even though we cannot touch or see something tangible, it does not mean that they do not exist. In fact, this is where the core essence of the functioning of a person and its physical body lies.
This invisible and intangible part is crucial for the human body to work properly, because this is where all the “autonomous” (automatic) functions of the body take place. This includes human heart pumping the blood, stomach digestion, distribution of nutrition and elimination of toxins, etc. Our body works every day, all cells and tissues, organs and body systems throughout our entire life, without our conscious control.
If these subtle fields (but mainly the emotional and mental bodies) decreases in frequency, physiological changes start to occur, which can lead to pathological changes in the body. This is the beginning of an illness.
As soon as we understand these simple natural and universal patterns, we can change what we are not willing to experience, especially an illness.
CSR therapy has been effective over a wide spectrum of medical problems, including:
- Improvement of headaches
- Issues in newborns arising from baby’s position in the womb, during birth, sleep issues and discomfort
- Traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries
- Chronic neck and back pain
- Motor coordination difficulties
- Stress and tension-related problems
- Central nervous system disorders
- Temporomandibular joint syndrome (TMJ)
- Chronic fatigue
- Neurovascular or immune disorders
- Scoliosis
- Infantile disorders
- Post-traumatic stress disorder
- Learning difficulties
- Connective tissue disorders
- Many other medical problems
A therapy session
Craniosacral therapy in the way of a deep relaxation is therefore the perfect resonance. Using this method, we can induce a deep relaxation of the body and mind so the highly intelligent body of the client can start self-regulation mechanisms and release internal forces needed at the particular moment.
During the session, a client is fully clothed, ideally wearing comfortable and thin clothes. We work very gently with the bones and tissues of the skull, sacral bone, pelvic bones, feet and fascias on the front of the trunk.
We are not trying to look for blocks and blockages, we do not diagnose and pay attention to illnesses and maladies, because it is not conducive to a healing process for the client. On the contrary, the more attention we pay on a issue or illness, the more we amplify it.
In craniosacral resonance, we take every person as and individual being and approach each body with great honour and respect. The therapy itself is a deep experience for the the therapist as well as the client, which is difficult to put to words.

CSR is unique in that it can deal with and resolve the effects of birth trauma (both the compressive forces exerted on the skull, and also the shock effects of a traumatic birth) with its many possible consequences.

Credentials
I studied Craniosacral Therapy through Deep Relaxation technique with Viktorie Skacel, a Czech therapist, who has combined various techniques together with knowledge, skills and experience and developed this technique and has had great results with over many years of her practice. Her journey, skills and knowledge are an inspiration, you can find details about her on her website https://v-laska.com/o-mne/ (currently in Czech only).
